How to compress images without losing quality
Big pictures slow down websites, bounce off email limits and fill up phones. This free compressor makes JPG, PNG, WebP and HEIC pictures much smaller in one click, and it does the work in your browser so nothing is uploaded.
Choose how much to shrink, drop in one picture or a whole folder, and see how much space you saved on every file before you download.
How to compress a picture
Pick a level. Balanced is right for almost everything: files get much smaller and still look great. Smallest file saves the most space and suits email and chat. Best quality is gentle and hard to tell from the original.
Drop your pictures into the box. Each one shows the old and new size and the percentage saved, and you can download them one by one or all together as a ZIP.
If a picture cannot be made any smaller, the original is kept so you never end up with a bigger file.
Getting a file under 100 KB, 200 KB or 1 MB
Open More options and type the largest size you want. The compressor lowers the quality only as far as needed to fit, and it tells you if the picture also has to be made smaller on screen. You can set a longest side such as 1920 or 1280 pixels to help.
This is the quickest way to meet an upload limit on a form, a job application or a school portal.
JPG, PNG and WebP: what changes
JPG and WebP shrink by lowering the quality a little, which the eye barely notices at 75 to 85 percent.
PNG files are lossless, so they only get much smaller when the number of colours is reduced. That works very well for logos, screenshots and graphics. Photos saved as PNG are usually smaller as JPG or WebP, and you can choose that under Save as.
Photos from an iPhone are HEIC. They become JPG, which opens everywhere.
Private by design
Your pictures are compressed inside your browser. They are not sent to our servers and nothing is stored. By default the hidden camera data, including the GPS location, is removed, which also saves a little space. You can keep it if you need it.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I reduce the size of an image without losing quality?
- Use the Balanced level. For JPG and WebP it lowers the quality only slightly, which is hard to see, and removes hidden camera data. For PNG it reduces the number of colours. Check the result in the list before you download.
- How do I compress an image to 200 KB?
- Open More options, type 200 in the file size box, and add your picture. The compressor lowers the quality until the file fits. If it still does not fit, also set a smaller longest side, such as 1280 pixels.
- Are my pictures uploaded when I compress them?
- No. The compression runs on your own device, so your pictures never leave it and nothing is stored on our servers.
- Will compressing a PNG reduce its quality?
- Balanced and Smallest reduce the number of colours, which shrinks PNGs a lot and looks fine for logos, screenshots and graphics. Choose Best quality or All colours for a lossless result. If a PNG cannot be made smaller, the original is kept.
- Can I compress many images at once?
- Yes. Add up to 200 pictures at a time and download them together as one ZIP file.
- Can I compress HEIC photos from my iPhone?
- Yes. HEIC photos are converted to JPG while they are compressed, so they open on any device and are usually much smaller.
- Does compressing remove GPS location and camera details?
- By default yes, which also makes the file a little smaller. In More options you can keep the camera details, with or without the GPS location. Only JPG files can carry this data.
