The guide

How to crop a photo without losing quality

Cropping cuts away the parts of a picture you do not want, so the subject fills the frame or the picture fits a square, a banner or a profile circle. This free cropper does it in your browser, at the full size of your original, with no account and no upload.

Drop in a picture, drag the frame, and download the crop. Add more pictures to crop a whole batch in the same way.

How to crop a picture

Drag the frame to move it, and drag a corner or an edge to make it bigger or smaller. On a phone use your finger, and on a computer you can also use the arrow keys to nudge it and plus and minus to resize it.

Pick a shape for the crop: free, the same shape as the original, 1:1 for a square, 4:5 for an Instagram portrait, 16:9 for video, passport, A4, or a custom shape such as 5:4. The frame keeps that shape while you resize it.

Choose Circle or oval for a round profile picture. The corners become see-through in PNG and WebP, or you can fill them with white or black.

Crop a whole batch

Add several pictures and click each one in the strip under the picture to set its frame. Turn on Use the same crop for all pictures and the frame moves on every picture together, with the same shape, so a set of photos ends up cropped the same way.

Crop all as ZIP gives you every picture in one download.

Full quality

The preview you see is a smaller copy so it stays fast. The crop itself is cut from your original, so the result keeps the full detail. You can also scale the crop to a set width, turn and flip the picture, and choose JPG, PNG or WebP.

Hidden camera data such as the GPS location is removed by default. You can keep it if you need it.

Private by design

Your pictures are cropped inside your browser. They are not sent to our servers and nothing is stored.

Frequently asked questions

How do I crop a picture to a square?
Add your picture, choose 1:1 under Shape of the crop, drag the square frame over the part you want to keep, and click Crop and download.
How do I make a round profile picture?
Choose Circle or oval, drag the circle over your face, and download. The result is a PNG with see-through corners, or a WebP, so it looks round on any background.
Does cropping reduce the quality?
No. The crop is cut from your original picture at full size, so the part you keep is as sharp as it was. Only the preview on screen is a smaller copy.
Are my pictures uploaded when I crop them?
No. The cropping runs on your own device, so your pictures never leave it and nothing is stored on our servers.
Can I crop many pictures at once?
Yes. Add up to 50 pictures, set the frame on each one or use the same crop for all of them, and download everything as one ZIP.
Can I crop to an exact size in pixels?
Yes. Under More options you can type the exact position and size of the frame in pixels, and set the output width. The frame keeps its shape when you use a fixed ratio.
Can I rotate or flip a picture while I crop it?
Yes. Use Turn left, Turn right, Flip and Mirror. The frame follows the picture, and the crop is made after the turn.
