The guide

How to build a wedding shot list

A shot list is the agreed set of must-have photos for a wedding — the ones that cause problems if they are missed. This generator builds a printable list you can hand to your photographer or second shooter.

It covers getting-ready, ceremony, family groups, couple portraits, and reception, and you edit every line.

What belongs on it

Family combinations, by name. "Couple with the bride's grandparents" is a shot; "family photos" is not. Name every group so nobody is forgotten in the chaos.

The non-obvious details the couple cares about — the rings on Grandma's bible, the shoes, the handwritten vows.

One or two reception moments that are easy to miss: the toast reactions, the parents watching the first dance.

How to use it on the day

Assign a family member to gather people for the group shots. The photographer calls names off the list; the helper rounds them up. This is the single biggest time-saver.

Keep the list to a page. A shot list that runs to three pages does not get used.

Frequently asked questions

What should be on a wedding shot list?
Named family group combinations, the detail shots the couple cares about (rings, shoes, vows), and a few easy-to-miss reception moments. Keep it to one page.
Is the wedding shot list generator free?
Yes. Build and download a printable must-have shot list for ceremonies, receptions, and portraits with no account.
Who should hold the shot list during the wedding?
The photographer works from it, and a nominated family member gathers people for the group shots as the photographer calls names. That pairing saves the most time.
