Face recognition for wedding photos
A wedding gallery can hold thousands of photos. Face recognition lets each guest take one selfie and see only the photos they appear in, instead of scrolling through all of them.

How does face recognition work for wedding photos?
The photographer or couple uploads the wedding photos to one gallery. The software detects every face and groups the matching ones. A guest opens the gallery link, takes a selfie, and is shown the photos that match their face. They can download those photos without hunting through the rest.
Setting it up for your wedding
- 1
Create one gallery for the wedding
Add the photographer's selects, and optionally guest uploads. One album avoids the usual spread across Drive folders and chat threads.
- 2
Let the faces get indexed
Pixeva detects the faces in each photo after upload. Larger galleries take longer to finish, so upload a day or two before you share the link.
- 3
Share the link or a QR code
Put the link in the thank-you message or print the QR on a table card. Guests open it on their phone, with no app and no account needed to search.
- 4
Guests take a selfie and download
Each guest gets their own set. Photos where they are small, turned away, or in heavy shadow may be missed, so the full gallery stays available too.
Face search vs the usual ways to share wedding photos
Most couples share a Drive link or a WhatsApp group. Both work for a few dozen photos and break down at a few thousand.
| Shared folder or chat | Face recognition gallery | |
|---|---|---|
| Finding your own photos | Scroll through everything | One selfie, filtered set |
| Guest effort | Download whole albums | Open link, take a selfie |
| App or account needed | Often yes | No app for guests |
| Photo quality | Chat apps compress images | Originals kept for download |
| Best for | Under about 50 photos | Hundreds to thousands of photos |
Getting better matches
Ask guests for a clear selfie
Face the camera in even light, without sunglasses or a mask. Wedding guests in formal wear and veils match fine when the face is visible.
Upload full-resolution photos
Detection works better on sharp images. Heavily downsized exports lose small faces in group shots.
Check privacy before you share
Decide who can open the link. Read how selfies are handled in the privacy policy, and tell guests that the selfie is only used to search the gallery.
Keep the full gallery visible
No face tool is perfect. Leave the complete gallery available so a guest missing a photo can still browse for it.
Wedding photo face recognition FAQ
- Can guests find their wedding photos with a selfie?
- Yes. Guests open the gallery link, take a selfie, and are shown the photos that match their face. They do not need to install an app.
- Is face recognition for wedding photos private?
- Only people with the gallery link can search it. Hosts choose who gets the link. See the Pixeva privacy policy for how selfies and face data are handled.
- How accurate is face matching on wedding photos?
- It is reliable when faces are visible and reasonably sharp. Photos where a guest is far away, turned away, or heavily shadowed can be missed, which is why the full gallery stays browsable.
- Do guests need to create an account?
- No. Guests can search with a selfie from the link on their phone browser.
- How many wedding photos can the gallery handle?
- Event galleries are built for thousands of photos. Plan limits depend on the pass you choose, listed on the pricing page.
